The film begins with a look at colour mixing for those ubiquitous greens, before David heads out into the English countryside in search of subjects. He tackles buildings in the landscape, then a pastoral scene where the light is constantly changing and thus creating an interesting challenge.

He also paints an alfresco watercolour on the River Wye, introducing lovely reflections and sparkling water. Finally a studio painting brings together many of the sketches to show how he creates a composition using subject matter from a variety of sources.

The film is crammed with advice and tips on painting summer landscapes in watercolour, and also includes a gallery of paintings of summer scenes,. It is 90 minutes in length.
