Sunlight and Shadows

Strong sunlight produces cast shadows across the towpath and highlights the left-hand sides of the three main trees on the right bank. Note how the sunlit edges are harder, whilst the shadow sides are generally softer. In each case the foliage colours were applied first and then, when the paint was completely dry, given shape by defining the shadow areas.
