Sunset
In
this peaceful sunset scene the warmth in the sky is emphasised by the coolness
of the water. To create the sparkle on the water, dry-brush work has been used,
softening the edges with a darker wash. In the foreground the ripples have been
lifted out with a half inch flat brush while the wash was still wet. To reinforce
the ripples a few flecks of darker colour were painted in when the wash was dry.
The secret of the success of this painting is in its simplicity.
