This is a standard composition with the river leading the
eye to the mountain.
Sometimes when there is snow on the ground it is difficult
to differentiate between the snow and the river where they are both caught in
the sunlight, so I have put more shadow in the banks of the river with stronger
tones to suggest the shadow under the rocks themselves.
Also it is a good idea to bring in some warmer colour,
especially in the foreground. In this
case I have used yellow ochre and light red to indicate bushes and grasses.
This helps to create a sense of recession.
The other opportunity to put colour into a snow scene
is in the sky and I have emphasised the warmth in the sky in this painting.
