Creating Atmosphere in Pastel

To create the impression of a stormy sky strong blue grey pastel is juxtaposed with pale yellow and white in the sky. At the same time the distant trees are painted with the same blue grey as the sky and in places they merge with the sky.

Stronger colours and tones in the foregound emphasise this effect and dark shadows across the fields adds to the impression of a stormy day.
